Old-School Marketing: Can We Bring It Back?

Social media is everywhere. It’s hard to run a business without it, and yet, here I am, wondering if there’s another way. Remember the days before Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok? How did we get the word out back then?
Simple: word of mouth.
People talked. They recommended businesses they loved. They shared their experiences over coffee, at gatherings, and through actual conversations. And guess what? It worked. Businesses thrived because of trust, relationships, and personal connections—not algorithms.
I miss that. I like old-school marketing. The kind where a friend tells a friend, who tells another friend. The kind where quality and service speak louder than curated online content.
But here’s the thing—can we bring it back?
I want to challenge myself (and you!) to think beyond Facebook and Instagram. How can we market in today’s world without relying on social media? Can we:
Leverage community events?
Build stronger in-person connections?
Encourage word-of-mouth referrals?
Find creative, non-digital ways to spread the word?
I’m reaching out to you, my community, for ideas. How do we keep old-school marketing alive in a digital world? Drop your thoughts in the comments, or better yet—tell a friend about Sew Magarbo today. Let’s get the word out, the way we used to.
